Jol confident of Hangeland deal

Fulham boss Martin Jol is hopeful that club captain Brede Hangeland will extend his stay at Craven Cottage in the next fortnight.

The Norwegian, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, was linked with a move to QPR last month, with his long-term future with the Cottagers in some doubt.

Jol has made little secret of his desire to keep hold of the 31-year-old, but no official agreements have been made with the centre-back.

But, the Dutchman hinted that Hangeland’s contractual situation is being resolved and that an announcement could made in the coming weeks:

“We are talking to quite a few players (about contract extensions).” He is quoted by the Evening Standard.

“He (Hangeland) is one of them. It’s about him. But we are talking so it’s a positive thing and he wants to stay here.

“That’s good so there is no news now, but hopefully (there will be) in the next couple of weeks.”

Hangeland has become a cult hero amongst Fulham’s fans during his spell in West London, after producing a number of fine displays to help maintain the club’s Premier League status.

As well as the defender, new deals are expected for veteran duo Giorgos Karagounis and Mark Schwarzer.
